The Dough:
Chiq’s 93 was born in a small apartment on a bustling Los Angeles night in 2023. I had an itch to create what I would consider my “ideal cookie” after countless LA bakery visits and failing to find it. How could that be?! I was in the middle of foodie heaven! It had to be somewhere here, right? Disappointingly: wrong. So, I took that as a challenge — to make what I would consider “the ideal cookie”. With a tinker here and a grain of salt there, I got closer and closer with each step. With dedicated practice and unending support from my loving partner Josh — my ideal cookie finally came to be.
Thus, Chiq’s 93 was born!
“Chiq” refers to “Chiqui”, my nickname my parents gave me at birth due to my chubby cheeks. “93” refers to “1993”, the year I was born. Inside and out…I am Chiq’s 93!
The Gooey:
Baking came at a time of confusion for me. It served as a form of comfort and a leg of creativity for me in a time where I wasn’t entirely sure what either meant. From wanting to make people happy to experimenting with new and yet familiar flavors, this endeavor presented a safe haven for me to look inward and feel attuned to myself again!
Chiq’s 93 is my love letter not only to food, my heritage, and the people I hold dearest in my life; it’s a love letter and devotion (probably most importantly) to myself!
